Broadcasters need to be aware that ASCAP, BMI and SESAC (the " performing rights organizations " or PROs) don't cover them for all uses of music - especially uses that may be made on station websites. Offering downloads, podcasts, and streaming video featuring music all require specific permission from music rights holders. And, as we wrote As music usually has two different classes of rights holders - those that hold the rights to the musical composition (the lyrics and music in the song, usually held by a publishing company ), and the rights to the " sound recording " or " master recording " (usually held by the record companies ), knowing who to ask for what rights can sometimes be complicated.

MIDEM , the world’s largest music convention and trade show is wrapping up today in Cannes, France. Eagle Rock Entertainment has acquired a 20% stake in i-concerts, Transmedia’s cross platform live music channel.
Under terms of the PEDL, participating societies are granted non-exclusive rights in Warner/Chappell Music’s Anglo-American repertoire.

Music Publishing A Good Investment
Two hundred million dollars is just a drop in the bucket to purchaser classic song copyrights such as “The Sound of Music” and the “King and I.” 8221; I guess that is what Imagem Music Group, a Dutch pension fund, thought when they purchased the music publishing catalog containing the hits and Broadway classics penned byRichard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

Warner Music Says No More Music for Streaming - What's It Mean for US Webcasters?
According to British press reports , Warner Music's CEO Edger Bronfman Jr. stated that it will cease making its music available to advertising supported streaming music sites . This has prompted some questions about how this decision would affect services such as Pandora , Slacker, Accuradio and other Internet radio companies - would it deny them access to substantial amounts of music? In fact, as these US services operate under a " statutory license ", created by Congress, they get access to all legally recorded music in exchange for the payment of a royalty established by the Copyright Royalty Board .
