Gordon P. Firemark

Entertainment Law Asked & Answered – Does an Actor’s Agent have an Obligation to Tell the Actor about all Job Offers?

Gordon P. Firemark

In this Asked & Answered video, I answer a common question if an actor’s agent have an obligation to tell the actor about all job offers. Those tactics have left SAG actors with virtually no studio theatrical work since June 30 of last year, no increase in minimum compensation levels for TV work (and the theatrical work that does exist), a dramatically diminished share of pilots, and a panoply of expired contracts in other areas. AFTRA actors are likewise vulnerable, if for no other reason than the fact that most of them are SAG members as well.) Thus, they put the squeeze on actors.

An Actor's Cautionary Tale: Cancer Diagnosis and a Drawn-Out Battle Over Residuals

Digital Media Law

Actors often complain about late residuals checks, although SAG-AFTRA has cut processing delays lately. But few stories compare to the battle waged by Alex Doe (a pseudonym), a voice actor who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and endured a 3-1/2-year residuals runaround from Warner Bros. Residuals are royalties that are paid to actors, writers, directors and musicians when movies and TV shows are rerun or are released in other media such as DVD or the Internet.
