DGA to Negotiate on SAG & AFTRA's Heels
The Directors Guild announced on its website today that it will begin negotiations with the AMPTP (studio alliance) in mid-November, which is immediately after the scheduled end of 45 days of negotiation between the AMPTP and SAG (Screen Actors Guild) & AFTRA (a smaller performers union). SAG, AFTRA and the AMPTP declined to comment.

A “New” Entertainment Union - And a Possible Name
SAG reacted favorably, with guild president Ken Howard remarking in an email to me, “I’m delighted to see AFTRA’s leadership speak out forcefully about something that I and other SAG leaders so strongly support. Report from SAG Town Hall Meeting
I visited the SAG Town Hall meeting in LA tonight. After the meeting started, people continued to trickle in slowly; no one, so far as I could tell, was turned away. The meeting lasted about 3 hours, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Tags: SAG Labor Unions strike There was an open mic period, and many people spoke.

SAG & AMPTP Confirm Meetings for Next Tues-Weds
SAG and the AMPTP confirmed in a joint press release today that they will meet at AMPTP HQ next Tuesday and Wednesday, February 17-18, as was widely expected. Meanwhile, MembershipFirst released a statement from key leader and SAG 1 st VP Anne-Marie Johnson that shows they intend to torpedo a deal if possible.
