Oscar Rule Change: Ten Best Lists
1969 original nominees Midnight Cowboy [winner] Anne of the Thousand Days Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Hello, Dolly! A film historian of the 60s and 70s sent me his best guesses at what ten best Oscar lists would have been between 1967 and 1979. Bottom line though, the Academy had more quality films to choose from then than they do now.

At Friday night's showing of Davis Guggenheim's ode to three blues guitarists, It Might Get Loud (which debuted at Sundance), Jack White and Jimmy Page showed up. LAFF: Yeldham Leads Charge
It's crucial that new Los Angeles Film Festival director Rebecca Yeldham programmed an indie opener for Thursday night's LAFF launch. Some movies are being presented free, including Sundance faves Amreeka and The Cove. She waited and waited and hung in for the right movie, long after her staff was comfortable, through Cannes.

Sundance's Brecher Resigns
It's the dawn of a new era at the Sundance Institute. With Brecher gone, Sundance and the Fest have the chance to start fresh, with Gilmore's long-time lieutenant John Cooper at the festival helm.
