In papers filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, November 6, father Joe Jackson requested an allowance from Michael’s estate. It was a number one blockbuster and grossed over $100 million and is rumored to possibly be an Oscar contender. Money, that is. His surprise was undoubtedly shared by many others.

Oscar Rule Change: Ten Best Lists
A film historian of the 60s and 70s sent me his best guesses at what ten best Oscar lists would have been between 1967 and 1979. JEAN BRODIE was a quality drama being lobbied hard by Fox for Maggie Smith's Oscar-worthy (ultimately Oscar-winning) performance -- it isn't a stretch to imagine it as a Best Picture nominee. Darn it.

No Strike Waivers For TV Yet But Web Start Ups Tempt Writers
Variety’s Dave McNary reported that the WGA rejected requests for strike waivers by the Golden Globes and Oscar telecasts today. While the Guild granted waivers during the strike in 1988, I doubt they will now- even to Letterman and Leno -until and unless meaningful negotiations resume for two reasons. Amateur Videos: Making Police Accountable?
On January 1, 2009, Oscar Grant, a 22 year old African-American, was shot in the back and killed by a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officer, Johannes Mehserle. The attack against King was recorded when Los Angeles resident, George Holliday, heard commotion in the street outside his window. Grant was unarmed. Megan Bibb.
