LAFF Film Fest Wrap
Film Independent chief Dawn Hudson and new LAFF director Rebecca Yeldham were heaving sighs of relief at the sunny awards brunch at the Hammer Museum Sunday. Thursday's LAT front-page "NBC Advertisement," with no byline, about the new show Southland , looked creepy and wrong. This follows the 1999 Staples scandal, when the LAT published a weekend magazine special issue about the Staples Center and split ad revenue with the new venue. We all know that newspapers are on the ropes. Is this OK?

couple weeks ago we discussed the billboard near the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles that's a subject of dispute between Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox. That might not seem like much compared to the billboard near the 405, but New York has other ways to make the billboard space ungodly expensive. By Eriq Gardner.
