Silly Lawsuit Against SAG Dismissed; and More
Those issues will probably be hard fought. None of the other guild/union books do, and the WGA has even moved away from the small format books to a large size that’s more manageable. And speaking of WGA credits, why not have end credits for “Additional writing by,” so that all participating writers get credit? Or maybe not.

Now, for writers who are members of WGA, shared credit is a trickier issue, often involving subsequent rewrites by other writers, and ultimately, it’s the producer and the WGA’s credit arbitration panel who decide who gets credit. DGA to Negotiate on SAG & AFTRA's Heels
The DGA contract (like those of SAG, AFTRA and the WGA) expires in mid-2011, but the DGA always negotiates early. As is our custom, we will engage with the AMPTP to clarify and narrow the issues before the beginning of formal negotiations. Hopefully, SAG, AFTRA and the DGA will coordinate their proposals.

G-Men Mediating WGA Negotiations
On Friday night, Dave McNary reported in Variety that after three months of unproductive negotiations and just days before the current contract expires, the US government is set to mediate negotiations between the WGA, the networks and the studios. The WGA can tell its members to stop writing and start picketing as early as Thursday.

WGA STRIKE OFFICIALLY OVER
Writers on both coasts officially ratified the WGA's new pact with the major studios. The agreement, accepted by the WGA's ruling board over two weeks ago on February 10, provides writers with concessions on issues that fueled their strike. The three year deal runs through 2011.

Suit Brought against WGA
Writer-director William Richert has sued the Writers Guild of America West in Los Angeles Superior Court over its practice of collecting foreign levies for writers who aren't WGA members. WGA West president Daniel Petrie Jr. Mark will speak at the 9 AM panel on Intellectual Property and Copyright issues at WIF Summit. 29-30.

Opting For The Bigger Hammer
The WGA is ratcheting up the rhetoric by recently issuing hardline rules to its 12,000 members if the guild goes on strike as threatened. Discipline for violations can include expulsion, suspension, fines and censure; nonmembers who perform banned work during a strike will be barred from joining the WGA..

Already planning for thee 2011 labor negotiating cycle, the forward-looking Directors Guild has hired new media consultancy Wolzien LLC to study the issues. WGA Executive Director David Young Defends Writers Strike. Leno Haled Into WGA Court. The WGA won EST at 0.65% and 0.7% These continue in NY under a press blackout.

SAG & Studios Agree to Tentative Deal
That means all four unions will be able to coordinate negotiations and strategy, even to the point of threatening a joint strike by two (WGA and SAG) or three (WGA, SAG and AFTRA) of the unions. The new deal compromises the force majeure claims SAG has pending from the 2007-2008 WGA strike. bump on June 30 of this year.
