There are several items of note (so to speak) in the signed agreement , which runs through February 23, 2013: * Wage increases are small by most Hollywood union standards: 1.5% four months ago. Talk about sotto voce.

Hollywood Crew Deal Ratified
As expected, the membership of IATSE , the union representing Hollywood crew members, ratified that organization’s proposed contract with the studios yesterday, although not without significant opposition. The new contract takes effect August 1 and runs for three years, as is usual with Hollywood labor agreements.

Hollywood Labor’s Long-Term Future: More Unrest
After a year and a half of Hollywood labor turmoil, we’re finally nearing a SAG deal and the end of this negotiating cycle. Hollywood is now yoked to the computer, Internet and consumer electronics industries, all of which evolve at breakneck speed, dragging slower-moving Hollywood along like a clumsy partner in a three-legged race.

SAG & Studios Agree to Tentative Deal
IATSE’s new media provisions are similar in several respects as well.) One thing that’s clear is that this is a time of enormous change for the Hollywood actors unions. SAG Hardliners: The Trojan Horsemen of the Apocalypse

SAG: No Good Reason to Strike
SAG is seeking more inclusive new media jurisdiction than AFTRA and the other unions (DGA, WGA, and IATSE) got; broader new media residuals coverage; increased DVD residuals; and consent and compensation for product integration. There’s turmoil planned for the upcoming Jan. 12-13 SAG National Board meeting, reports the LA Times. NO WAY !”

Actors Commercials Negotiations Deteriorate
Apparently, they often play hardball until a strike authorization vote is held, note the Hollywood Reporter. Side note: P&H rollbacks also feature in the campaign by some members of IATSE, the union that represents most crew members, to derail that union’s proposed contract with the studios. The unions want to change that.

SAG & The Studios: What Are They Fighting Over?
The studios respond by pointing to the same or similar provision in the new media deal accepted by the Directors Guild, Writers Guild, the smaller AFTRA actors union (in two separate deals), and the IATSE union (which covers technical and craft workers, i.e., This faction also controls the negotiating committee and the Hollywood Board.
