AFTRA Board Approves Joint Bargaining With SAG
In a statement, AFTRA National President Roberta Reardon cited “productive discussions with our counterparts at Screen Actors Guild” and added, “I look forward to continuing our work with SAG President Ken Howard and the leadership and members of our sister union as we move forward to bargain the strongest possible contracts for professional talent.”

Songwriters Guild's Carnes on piracy and 'Cyber-Somalia'
Music attorney Chris Castle's blog has a terrific interview with Rick Carnes, President of the Songwriters Guild of America. His organization represents actual human beings who start with a blank piece of paper and create art -- and simply want to get paid for it, and not have their work stolen. The article chronicled the moment when the studios had finally recognized the Guild as the labor representative for actors in the motion picture industry. That moment, and the incredible work that it took Guild members to reach that moment, have served as the foundation for 75 years of history that has followed. We must work together.

SAG Moderates File Document to Fire National Executive Director
The civil war at the Screen Actors Guild has gone nuclear. Guild president Alan Rosenberg is unmentioned in the document and would remain in place until his term ends in September. This unprecedented level of obstruction has paralyzed the Guild. The question now becomes whether SAG will accede to the assent, as it were.

SAG Moves towards Joint Bargaining with AFTRA
The SAG National Board yesterday passed a resolution, by a surprising 82% to 18% vote, directing the guild’s president and National Executive Director to “seek engagement with AFTRA in a joint bargaining agreement for negotiation of the Television/Theatrical Contract,” as quoted in a SAG press release.

SAG TV/Theatrical Contract Ratified Overwhelmingly, 78%-22%
In a stunning defeat for the hardline Membership First faction, SAG's TV/theatrical contract passed overwhelmingly, by a 78%-22% margin (almost 4 to 1), those numbers according to the guild. Variety first reported the story, prior to the guild's announcement, with a 1% difference in the numbers. The pact becomes effective at 12:01 a.m.
