Like the tar baby, the Google Books settlement agreement often raises more questions than it answers. Google, of course, never met a law it couldn't twist to its advantage. unclaimed funds from Google Books will be applied to cost and then distributed to the club. Take something simple--unclaimed funds. mean the Books Registry.

Google Books vs. Library Books?
On Friday, the Justice Department pushed for a federal court judge to reject a settlement proposal that would allow Google to digitally scan library books and place them online. After much speculation that it would pull out of China entirely, Google elected last week to lob the ball into China’s court. Hey, Google, Get Off My Lawn!
Even as a law student, when I look at Google’s “Street View” feature, the last thing I’m thinking about is a lawsuit. Our story begins back in 2008, when the Borings discovered that their home was depicted on Google’s street view feature. Needless to say, Google was not about to take a default judgment. Game over, right?

Italian Court Decides Google Executives are Criminals
However, this scenario actually played out in Italy in 2006 when a student posted an offensive video to Google Video, and the extent of criminal liability has gone far beyond what is fathomable for many. pretty harsh result when the employees, Google executives, never even knew about the video until after it had been removed from the website.

US News & World Report: "Google May Not Be Evil, But It Sure As Hell Isn't Interested in Free Speech"
There's a great piece on the US News & World Report blog by the well-respected author and journalist John Aloysius Farrell that must make Google count the days until it's driven all newspapers out of business. Note that this doesn't seem to happen to any independent artist who sends a DMCA notice that Google complies with.
