Oscar Rule Change: Ten Best Lists
Donen's TWO FOR THE ROAD was a well-respected picture, for which Fox would have pushed hard for year-end honors, particularly with ten possible spots. JEAN BRODIE was a quality drama being lobbied hard by Fox for Maggie Smith's Oscar-worthy (ultimately Oscar-winning) performance -- it isn't a stretch to imagine it as a Best Picture nominee.

News Corp. Empire Under Duress
His contract guarantees him a six-year motion picture and television production deal under which Fox is obligated to greenlight at least two movies a year, at his discretion. He plans to launch his production company later this year and to spearhead his nonprofit organization Malaria No More. That's unheard of in Hollywood.

'Founding Bloggers' writes 'open letter' to CNN; asks network to withdraw DMCA notice
We conclude, with some amusement, that your conduct tends to lend validity to the least flattering stereotypes associated with your organization. We are also incredulous, irritated, and amused – in short, our reaction is complicated. We live in the era of the internet – it is not so easy to silence people these days, as you will discover.

Found: campaign to urge Obama to appoint copyleft-friendly IP Czar
I've been waiting for the copyleft to organize a campaign to urge President Obama to appoint a Copyright Czar from the copyleft itself. To do so would be a continuation of putting the 'foxes in charge of the henhouse'. must say, I'm a bit confused by Ray Beckerman's fox/henhouse metaphor. Please pass this along.

Founding Bloggers v. CNN: counternotice submitted; countdown to re-posting -- or a lawsuit
And remember: CNN -- like all TV news organizations -- relies heavily on fair use every day, using clips from competitors, and even YouTube, in its own broadcasts. We're not going to let this just go away," Andrew Marcus of Founding Bloggers told C&C in an interview earlier today. So what happens next?

Techdirt errs on DMCA notice-and-takedown process
I could -- and sometimes do! -- spend all day doing nothing but correcting news organizations' errors about the DMCA 's notice-and-takedown procedures. Techdirt also says: Fox gets to take this video down at a time when it's most useful for commentary purposes. Fox doesn't "get[]" to take anything down. It doesn't. Wrong. Wrong.
