House Committee Passes Bill to Allow for More LPFM Stations - With Some Protections for Existing Broadcasters
Providing protection for FM translator input signals from interference from new LPFM stations. For a year after a new LPFM goes on the air, it must broadcast notices that any listener who experiences interference to another FM station or FM translator from this new LPFM should report that interference to the LPFM station.

TV Digital Transition Rushes On - Comment Date on Proposals for Digital Fill-In Translators Set for January 12 and Analog Nightlight to Be Approved at January 15 Commission Meeting
The FCC's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Digital Fill-In Translators , to provide television service in areas where a television station's digital signal does not reach locations that were covered by its analog operations (a proposal we summarized here ) was published in the Federal Register today, setting comment dates on this proposal.

NAB Selects Gordon Smith as New President
Having someone with experience on Capitol Hill was clearly crucial to the NAB given how many controversial issues broadcasters are now facing from Congress and from the FCC. The NAB today announced that it has selected Gordon Smith , a former Republican Senator from Oregon, as its new President.

Ignorance is Bliss? Why Mounting Evidence that Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds Used Performance-Enhancing Drugs May Not Strengthen the Cases Against Them
There is an ongoing investigation into whether Clemens lied under oath when he testified before Congress that he had not used performance-enhancing drugs (namely, steroids and Human Growth Hormone/”HGH”) in 2008. Obama Transition Team Requests Delay of DTV Transition Deadline
This action, in turn, caused Consumers Union to ask Congress for a delay in the transition, resulting in Congressman Markey's office suggesting that the DTV transition might need to be delayed (as we wrote yesterday). That letter leaves everyone asking - will Congress respond? What a difference a few days makes.
