Universal v. Augusto First Sale Under Copyright Act Appeal
The question before the Seattle Court of Appeals is whether or not the offering for sale of promotional copies of music CD’s is an act of copyright infringement or a protected transaction under the First Sale doctrine of the US Copyright Act. blogged here about this case when the trial court ruled in favored of the defendant.

Warner Music Says No More Music for Streaming - What's It Mean for US Webcasters?
According to British press reports , Warner Music's CEO Edger Bronfman Jr. stated that it will cease making its music available to advertising supported streaming music sites. No more than 2 songs from same CD in a row. What would it affect? Presumably it could hurt services that don't rely on the statutory license.

ASCAP lists the music publisher for Rodgers and Hammerstein II as Williamson Music, Co. In addition to the hits of Rodgers and Hammerstein II, Imagem Music Group acquired songs by Irving Berlin and Lorenz Hart that were included in the Williamson Music, Co. by Tamera H. Bennett. catalog.

What is the Value of Music?
As I sit down to write this current column, I am reminded of one that I wrote about 9 months ago called "Does Music Have Value?" That entry discussed the intrinsic value of music as a retail product versus a marketing tool. For brevity's sake, let's limit it to a few of the most common: movies, CDs, DVDs, live music, music downloads.

BROADCAST OF PROMOTIONAL CD'S REQUIRES LICENSE
The Court disagreed with the Defendant’s claim that the broadcast of a promotional CD was not an infringing use, and stated that while a CD itself could be promotional, the licensing of a public performance was not. Vassar, Wiseman Overcome Copyright Infringement Suit
first blogged here about the 2007 lawsuit for copyright infringement against extremely successful country songwriters Phil Vassar, Craig Wiseman, their individual music publishers and Proctor & Gamble. The Beatles Decide to Ditch iTunes
I have to admit that at that time, I still had a few LPs that I had not replaced with a CD. Most people can easily rip a CD into their computer. Many people bought a track from iTunes that they already had on a CD just to avoid ripping it. Tags: Music Maybe.maybe not. It came and went. No iTunes.
