Remember the lawsuit that former SAG president Alan Rosenberg and three other Membership First members (1st VP Anne-Marie Johnson and board members Diane Ladd and Kent McCord) filed against their own union? Those issues will probably be hard fought. Voting is by mail or at the WGA annual meeting Sept. but the courts haven’t.

DGA to Negotiate on SAG & AFTRA's Heels
The DGA contract (like those of SAG, AFTRA and the WGA) expires in mid-2011, but the DGA always negotiates early. As is our custom, we will engage with the AMPTP to clarify and narrow the issues before the beginning of formal negotiations. In January, the National Board appointed Gil Cates as Negotiations Chair.

WGA STRIKE OFFICIALLY OVER
Writers on both coasts officially ratified the WGA's new pact with the major studios. The agreement, accepted by the WGA's ruling board over two weeks ago on February 10, provides writers with concessions on issues that fueled their strike. The three year deal runs through 2011.

SAG & Studios Agree to Tentative Deal
The deal will probably be approved by the SAG board today or tomorrow and ratified by the membership by mid-May, but the hardline MembershipFirst faction has vowed to fight the deal, so ratification, although likely, is not assured. The new deal compromises the force majeure claims SAG has pending from the 2007-2008 WGA strike.

SAG Letter re Force Majeure Claims
While the Guild’s intention was to settle or arbitrate these claims independently of the recent TV/Theatrical contract negotiations, beginning in April 2008, the producers insisted on including discussion of force majeure issues in the negotiations. SAG just sent members an email regarding force majeure claims. million. Highland Ave.

SAG Rejects Studio Offer; Back to Stalemate
By a vote of 73% to 27%, the Screen Actors Guild board of directors voted Saturday to reject the studios’ most recent offer, which the studio alliance, the AMPTP, had delivered two days earlier. Meanwhile, SAG’s main objection to the AMPTP offer is not new media per se, but the rather more prosaic issue of contract expiration date.

Hollywood Labor: SAG Source Says a Strike Unlikely, Joint SAG-AFTRA Bargaining Likely; and the Year Ahead
The source also said SAG’s upcoming January 31 national board meeting will probably feature a move towards resurrecting joint bargaining with AFTRA, adding that he/she was confident that bargaining later this year would indeed be jointly conducted. SAG’s next national board meeting after AFTRA’s February meeting is in April. per year.

SAG Executive Director: TV/Theatrical Deal Will Pass
The pending deal was, of course, the most pressing issue. That’s the Board’s decision, of course, but I asked White if he intended to be a candidate for the permanent (i.e., Instead, he said, board members from various factions have “an appetite to find a way to work together.” It might help if SAG’s board were smaller.

SAG: No Good Reason to Strike
12-13 SAG National Board meeting, reports the LA Times. Granting SAG leaders a strike authorization means they’ll almost certainly use it, unless the moderates on the National Board indeed try to stop them and in fact succeed in doing so. There will be no strike fatigue as there is now from the WGA strike. NO WAY !” Maybe never.
