SAG-AFTRA Ratify Advertising Agreement; SAG Townhall Features Fireworks
A contrasting post-meeting voice was MF stalwart and SAG board member Clancy Brown, who explained his opposition to the deal in more measured terms than Asner and Cassel had used. The result was expected, as there was no organized opposition. About 28% returned their ballots, about typical. Of those voting, about 94% voted yes. Well, why not?

SAG’s Strange Voyage
Last week, SAG’s Hollywood board, controlled by the hardline Membership First faction, passed a resolution establishing a task force “to explore the acquisition of actors of AFTRA.” Meanwhile the guild is, of course, incurring significant fees of its own to defend itself and the forty-odd Board members also named as defendants.

SAG: What Might Happen at Next Week's Board Meeting
The SAG National Board is meeting next Monday and Tuesday, Jan. The moderates and independents in the board room may have a hard time opposing this gambit. That said, I’m not placing any bets, because there are many possible outcomes of the board meeting. Oh, and by the way, the Hollywood Board is meeting next Thursday.

SAG TV/Theatrical Ballots Later Than Expected; SAG Litigation Continues; and More
In other SAG news, Unite for Strength revealed in a Facebook email several days ago that the force majeure compromise is 33 cents on the dollar. Force majeure” refers to arbitration claims on behalf of about 500 actors for a portion of wages lost due to the 2007-2008 Writer Guild strike. It’s expected to pass easily.

SAG Stalemate Update
Causing the stalemate is the issue of contract expiration date rather than new media; there’s talk of a trade-off between this issue and the (unrelated) SAG demand for force majeure payments per the previous SAG agreement. All National Board candidates qualified for the ballot by Nominating Petition.

SAG & Studios Agree to Tentative Deal
The deal will probably be approved by the SAG board today or tomorrow and ratified by the membership by mid-May, but the hardline MembershipFirst faction has vowed to fight the deal, so ratification, although likely, is not assured. The new deal compromises the force majeure claims SAG has pending from the 2007-2008 WGA strike.

SAG & The Studios: What Are They Fighting Over?
Force Majeure. Such events are called “force majeure,” and include riots, earthquakes, terrorism, or—significantly—strikes by other unions. that actors are owed money under the force majeure provision because production was interrupted by the writers strike. SAG, however, never returned my call. Fair enough.

SAG: No Good Reason to Strike
12-13 SAG National Board meeting, reports the LA Times. Granting SAG leaders a strike authorization means they’ll almost certainly use it, unless the moderates on the National Board indeed try to stop them and in fact succeed in doing so. Derivative and Original—zero forced call consideration: Asner is correct. NO WAY !” Months?
