I was catching up on my reading and caught this from one of Anne Thomson’s blog entries she wrote from Cannes last week. The best way to maximize foreign sales - and increase the likelihood of covering a picture’s budget - is with a US theatrical release. Thompson wrote that “[v]ideo drives everything. demand.

SAG has a number of other expired agreements —smaller fry than the SAG-AFTRA commercials agreement (expected to be ratified when votes are tallied tomorrow night) and the pending TV/theatrical agreement, but nonetheless important to those who make their living from them. SAG TV/Theatrical Ballots Later Than Expected; SAG Litigation Continues; and More
The ballots for SAG’s recently approved TV/theatrical contract won’t be going out until mid to late May, a source tells me, several weeks later than the early May target that the Guild stated as recently as a week or so ago. Fans, Friends & Followers: Playbook for the Social Media Age
Here's the trailer: The agricultural documentary King Corn debuted at SXSW in 2007, went on to other festivals, had a theatrical run, aired on PBS in April 2008, and was one of the biggest selling films on iTunes. Cinematech blogger Scott Kirsner drank the digital Kool-aid some time back. He sent a PDF of the cover and interior to upload.
