Silly Lawsuit Against SAG Dismissed; and More
15, 2011, is noteworthy for two reasons. 1, 2011, is 2.5% (2% increase in minimums and 0.5% Those issues will probably be hard fought. You may have blissfully forgotten this misbegotten legal action, filed a year and a half ago (!), but the courts haven’t. Or maybe not. This morning, yet another judge declared the lawsuit moot.

Fines For Public Inspection File Issues - Noncommercial Broadcasters Enter into Consent Decrees to Resolve Rule Violations
In two consent decrees released last week, the FCC's Enforcement Bureau agreed to significant "voluntary contributions" to the US Treasury to settle noncompliance issues reported in license renewal applications filed by noncommercial radio stations. Such scrutiny can often take a year, and sometimes several years, to resolve.

These settlements provide another example of the issue raised before the Senate Judiciary Committee of the arbitrary nature of the precedential nature that will be accorded to WSA settlements in future webcasting proceedings. 2011 $0.0017. WGA STRIKE OFFICIALLY OVER
The agreement, accepted by the WGA's ruling board over two weeks ago on February 10, provides writers with concessions on issues that fueled their strike. The three year deal runs through 2011. Writers on both coasts officially ratified the WGA's new pact with the major studios.

SAG Rejects Studio Offer; Back to Stalemate
Meanwhile, SAG’s main objection to the AMPTP offer is not new media per se, but the rather more prosaic issue of contract expiration date. SAG wants the contract to expire June 30, 2011, which would put in synch with AFTRA and just a couple months later than the Writers Guild. What next? Or, they could lock actors out.

Studios Release Final Offer to SAG
The revised SAG Agreement would expire June 30, 2011. This is big, and surprising, because the WGA Agreement expires May 1, 2011. For instance, if the deal were ratified January 1, 2009 (unlikely), then the 2nd year bumps would occur approximately January 1, 2010 and 2011. UPDATE: The AFTRA deal deferred this issue to SAG.)

Congress to Rewrite the Communications Act - What Could It Mean For Broadcasters?
