Hollywood Labor: SAG Source Says a Strike Unlikely, Joint SAG-AFTRA Bargaining Likely; and the Year Ahead
The current contract doesn’t expire until June 30, 2011, but the early bargaining is taking place pursuant to a clause included in the current agreement (ratified in June 2009) at the AMPTP’s insistence. If the agreement follows the customary pattern, AFTRA will receive annual increases on July 1, 2011, July 1, 2012, and July 1, 2013.

Hollywood Labor’s Long-Term Future: More Unrest
After a year and a half of Hollywood labor turmoil, we’re finally nearing a SAG deal and the end of this negotiating cycle. Hollywood is now yoked to the computer, Internet and consumer electronics industries, all of which evolve at breakneck speed, dragging slower-moving Hollywood along like a clumsy partner in a three-legged race.

SAG Rejects Studio Offer; Back to Stalemate
SAG wants the contract to expire June 30, 2011, which would put in synch with AFTRA and just a couple months later than the Writers Guild. That synchronicity, with its threat of a possible joint strike, would give the unions negotiating leverage in 2011. Thus, the offer will not be sent out to the membership for a ratification vote.

SAG’s Strange Voyage

SAG-AFTRA Ratify Advertising Agreement; SAG Townhall Features Fireworks
The first was last night in Hollywood , and the fur flew. strength in Hollywood. White previously predicted the deal would pass, so this time I asked whether he thought it would pass in Hollywood. Ned Vaughn also told me the deal would pass, both in Hollywood and nationally. Of those voting, about 94% voted yes.
