Patty Murray campaign pulls video that used Billy Joel song
It's impossible to say whether the video at issue was infringing without knowing more, including how much of the song was included. But of course it's hard to blame them for taking the cautious route; their energy should be devoted to winning their race, not litigating interesting copyright issues. The campaign of Sen. Wrong.

Viacom v. YouTube: A disappointing decision, but how important?
While I certainly don't equate quality with quantity, this opinion was just too damn short to do justice to the complex, heavily-litigated issues in the case. Judge Stanton issued his opinion barely a month after briefing was completed -- a very quick result. expect this to be a major issue on appeal. YouTube. 512(c)(1)(A)(ii).
